After meeting up at your place of stay in Addis Ababa or the airport between 7:00 AM to 8:30 AM, we will drive 100 km north of Addis Ababa to the Debre Libanos Monastery with a comfortable private Toyota minivan of 2014 Model.

After we drive 40 km, we will have a stop at one of the villages of the Oromo people, the biggest ethnic group in Ethiopia, to learn their way of life. It would be a great opportunity to communicate and learn how our perspective of seeing things is different from others.

Then, continue driving to Debre Libanos with another stop to stretch legs and take picture of the surrounding countryside scenery.

At Debre Libanos, visit church which was founded by Emperor Haile Selassie in the 1960s. Debre Libanos Monastery is Ethiopia’s biggest ( in terms of number of monks, nuns, etc) monastery which was originally founded in the 13th Century AD. Then, visit the monastery museum which has a great collection of ancient church materials, paintings, icons, manuscripts, crosses, crowns, etc

Next, walk to the Portuguese Bridge which is hand built walking bridge believed to have been constructed in the 16th Century AD. If you are coming in June, July, or August, you will see a great water fall of a river flowing under the bridge.

You will then walk around and look for one of the endemic mammals of Ethiopia – the Gelada Baboons which is also known as the “Lion Baboon” for its mane, or the “Bleeding Heart Baboon” for its bright red patch on its chest.

Finally, drive back to Addis Ababa with a stop to attend a typical Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony along the way.

1. Muluken was an amazing guide for this city tour as well (he was so good that kept him for 3 days)! On our request he took us to the Merkato, which we learned is the largest market in all of Africa. He utilized local merchants to both show us the best wares and protect us. We felt – and were – perfectly safe as we meandered the tiny streets of this indescribable market. We kept thinking that he looked familiar, turns out Muluken was on TV on the Travel Chanel! He’s THAT good, definitely the best.

4. Muluken was very knowledgeable about the city so we learned a lot of history about Addis as we saw the major landmarks and sites of the city. I was constantly asking questions and he was able to answer all of them. We were in Addis during the rainy season and he contacted us the evening before our tour to make sure we had the proper rain gear with us during the tour, so he was clearly thinking ahead about our experience. It was great. We had no complaints. Especially good if one had never been to Africa.

5. Muluken was punctual, polite and informative in what was a busy full day tour that we had arranged with him. His driver was also very good at coping with the often difficult Addis Ababa traffic. We also used them for a day trip out of Addis the next day. We have no hesitation in recommending him.
