So much fun with this fascinating family from LA who has a really interesting venn diagram of identity.
– We got to see preparations for the Feast of Corpus Christy inside the Church of the Holy Sepulcher.
– We met a serious biker in the Old City who biked here from France. No idea how and he only spoke French.
– We saw a minimalist mihrab (apse pointing to Mecca)
– On Haram Ish Sharif in front of the Kas Sabil (fountain for ritual ablution before prayer) I explained that one need not wash oneself 5 times a day if one remains pure after the first ablution.
I delicately explained that to remain pure means to refrain from expelling solids, liquids or gases from one’s body. Jonny Walker (yes his real name) had a really funny line. He quipped: so that means you can’t breathe?
