Bible and History in the Judean Lowlands

This tour is designed for the lovers of History and Bible and the bridges between them. It will take you to major archaeological sites of the Land of Israel which are mentioned in the Hebrew Bible (the Old Testament) and for which Biblical details have been confirmed by archaeological finds.

I will pick you up with my car from your place of stay, then we will head to the Judean Lowlands for our day tour for three visits off the beaten tracks.

Tel Gezer: a major Canaanite city mentioned multiple times in the Bible, conquered by Joshua, rebuilt by Solomon, used as a fort by the Seleucids in their war against the Maccabees, used again by the Crusaders as a watch outpost against the Fatimids, and it was also the theatre of a tragic battle during Israel's war of independence. So much History, ancient and modern, at our doorsteps and yet a site quite unknown to many visitors.

Tel Azekah: the fortified city in the times of King Saul that witnessed the battle between David and Goliath. The site offers spectacular views over the Elah Valley. We will make a stop in this valley to pick some pebble stones, as David did before his encounter against the Philistine giant.

Tel Lachish: it was the second city of importance in the Kingdom of Judah. It was fortified in the days of Jeroboam son of Solomon, and destroyed in 701 BCE by Sennacherib, king of Assyria. The archaeological findings there offer an incredible match with the Biblical narrative.
